Marvin

Marvin lives with an aunt because his mentally ill mother once threw him in a ditch when he was only six months. Some children called the aunt to collect him. His mother later got married. Her husband tried to kill Marvin several times when he visited them.

“Why won’t he accept me?” Marvin wonders. Through the lessons he learned from It Takes Courage and Christian Rite of Passage (CROP) at Hope for Life, Marvin feels that God wants him to be a bridge to reach his father. His father doesn’t understand yet that they are both God’s image bearers, but he will tell his father that he forgives him for trying to kill him.

Marvin became a competent mechanic after high school. With money earned from training others, he rescued his two sisters, who otherwise would have been taken to a children’s home. His grandmother lived in a rented house, but Marvin was also able to construct a semi-permanent house for her. They all depend on him.
